My personal electronica
July 12, 2008 16:56 (over 3 years ago)
Muenster is not a huge city. Most people from other parts of the world have never heard of it; It is quiet and quaint. It is full of bikes, students and catholics. The main employer is the university (the third biggest in Germany). It is an obscure, mid-sized city in the heart of Europa. Beyond all that, it’s the place I live. It is also the place I got acquainted with electronica. When I started studying in Muenster, I frequently used to hangout in the Luna Bar, a small club with headquarters in a used-to-be whorehouse on Hammerstr. All the 70ties remix stuff aside, there was lots of neat neverhadheardbefores. Mostly, I warmed up to the likes of Le Tone, Titan, Puddu Varano, Le Tigre (admittedly not electronica), Pizzicato Five and the gang (of which I can not find all of in google. If there are some misspellings here, let me know; I should mention that I looked on the internet for hours after getting home in order to find the song after the DJ let me in on the secret. Hence, I know as much as the ID3 tags). We literally used to hang out at the x-whorehouse; enjoyed drinks, music and dancing (as expected from sophomores). Anyways, just recently the good old place had to close down. After ownership was passed around for a couple of years, somebody finally brought the whole setup down (with arguments regarding noise levels). As it did most things, it went down in style. Luna Bar, RIP.
